Applaws is a British company and the food they produce is of excellent quality - some of the best available in this country.
The ingredients list of Applaws Puppy Large Breed is rich with gastronomic delights. The first two listed ingredients are both good sources of chicken, the main one being 67% dried chicken which is great as it has none of the water which can bulk out other formulas without adding nutritional value. Overall, chicken accounts for 75% of the dry food mix which is a really good proportion.
There are lots of good quality vegetables in here such as carrot, potato starch, beet pulp, alfalfa, kelp, and others. Salmon oil is another really nice inclusion, as this can benefit your dog's coat, skin, and can also support joints (it aids the rebuilding of collagen and acts as an anti-inflammatory).
This food's tailoring for large breeds is very good - glucosamine, chrondroitin and MSM methylsulfonylmethane are all included to aid joint development. Don't let the high protein level (38%) put you off - this protein comes from an excellent meat source and will be nothing but beneficial for your dog. Although the calcium:phosphorous ratio is a little off, the main thing is a nice low calcium level and Applaws Puppy Large Breed sits at a safe 1.34%.
There is only one slight weakness on the ingredients list, and that is the inclusion of cellulose plant fibre which is regarded as a not particularly nutritious filler. This is only a minor quibble with one ingredient, and the others are excellent.
If you are looking for a dry food mix for your large breed puppy which is slightly cheaper than Orijen's, but almost of the same outstanding quality, Applaws Puppy Large Breed is a really good choice.
